Semifinals of KSLTA-Asian Junior U-14 tournament: Rain plays spoilsport

1 min read

Bengaluru: The constant pitter-patter on Thursday forced the cancellation of the semifinals of the KSLTA-Asian Junior (U-14) tournament for the day at the KSLTA Tennis Stadium courts here.

The girls’ semifinals began as scheduled at 8.30am, but a steady drizzle brought the proceedings to a halt. The start-stop affair continued through the day before ATF Supervisor Supreeth Kadavigere called off the matches for the day at 5.45 pm in the evening.

The matches resumed after a near eight-hour interval in the evening before the heavens opened up again. No. 2 seed Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar (in picture above), who was up 1-0 against giant-killer Krishika Gautam in the morning, was leading 4-0 when the semifinal was called off. In the other last-four stage clash, Niesha Enja was 5-1 up against Diya Ravikumar Janaki.

The order of play for tomorrow will be updated after the completion of Thursday’s unfinished matches. If weather permits, the finals will be played at 5pm tomorrow.
