Bengaluru: Noted Kannada film director Guruprasad, aged 52, widely recognised for his impactful films like Mata and Eddelu Manjunatha, was found dead on Sunday in his Madanayakanahalli apartment, North Bengaluru.
Guruprasad’s body was reportedly found hanging from the ceiling fan, with Police suspecting the financial stress and alleged harassment from lenders as possible factors behind his death.
The Police were alerted by the neighbors who detected a foul smell from his flat. Guruprasad had been living in the apartment for the past eight months, and his personal life had recently drawn attention due to his second marriage. However, ongoing financial struggles are said to have greatly affected his mental health.
Guruprasad was a celebrated director in the Kannada film industry, with his last film Ranganayaka, and several other contributions as an actor and director.
His latest project, Adema, remained in production at the time of his passing.
In addition, a complaint was previously filed against him at the Jayanagar Police Station.
Lakshmikanth, the proprietor of Total Kannada stall in Jayanagar, alleged that Guruprasad had not paid for Kannada books and CDs purchased by him in 2019.
