Dasara 2023: Abhimanyu to carry golden howdah at Jamboo Savari

Mysuru: At this year’s world famous Jamboo Savari, Abhimanyu will carry the golden howdah, announced Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre.

Speaking at the Gajapayana at Veeranahosahalli here on Friday, the minister said that already the first batch of nine elephants have left Veeranahosahalli for Mysuru. They will undergo training to be all ready to take part in the Jamboo Savari. The Jamboo Savari, held on the Vijayadashami Day, attracts tourists from all over the globe and this is the flagship event of the ten-day Dasara in Mysuru. Abhimanyu will carry the golden howdah with the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari in it during the Jamboo Savari.

The minister said that selection of Nishane elephants is still pending and the process will be completed soon. This year, two new elephants – Kanjan and Mahendra – have left with Captain Abhimanyu in the first batch. These elephants will stay in Mysuru for over a month to get ready for the grand Jamboo Savari.

 

On the occasion, the minister mourned the tragic death of dart shooter Venkatesh at Halliyuru in Alur taluk, Hassan district. Venkatesh was chased and killed by an angry elephant that he was targeting to dart on Thursday.

The minister further said that Venkatesh’s death was a great loss for the department and assured that the government will provide compensation to Venkatesh’s family.
