In the notice – as reported by several media outlets quoting PTI – it is said that the documentary celebrated the lives of the Cavady couple which went on to win the Oscars. The filmmaker had promised the couple of a proper house, an all-terrain multi-purpose vehicle and financial help to educate their granddaughter. Although, the amount was not mentioned, the notice said that they sought financial help as generated from the project.
The notice pointed out that the couple were being hailed as “the real heroes” to all the political leaders, celebrities and others. But the filmmaker, it is reported, received all the financial benefits from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and even Prime Minister. But, nothing was shared with the couple, who inspired the documentary.
The couple refused to speak to several media outlets saying they have been asked not to do so by the law firm representing them.
Advocate Mohammed Mansoor who is handling the case said that in their reply to his notice, the Sikhya Entertainment Pvt Ltd, on behalf of Gonsalves said she has flatly refused any more help stating that she has already given money to the couple. However, advocate Mansoor said he will soon send a rejoinder after consulting his clients.
