Under my Presidentship Congress won 135 seats in Karnataka: CM aspirant D K Shivakumar speaks straight

2 min read

Bengaluru: As the curiosity builds up over who will be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka, KPCC President D K Shivakumar said ‘Being the party president I have kept the promise of bringing the party to power by winning 135 seats in the recent Assembly elections.’

Shivakumar who is one of the frontrunners for Chief Minister told media persons at his Sadashivanagar residence, ‘When Sonia Gandhi appointed me as the party president I had promised to restore the party to power in Karnataka. I had even promised Rahul Gandhi and I have done it as the head of the party.’

“I don’t have any personal number and the only number I know is 135,” said Shivakumar referring to the number of Congress MLAs who won the elections.

Even when 17 MLAs of JDS- Congress coalition government quit the parties and brought down the government, I didn’t lose my heart. I have single handedly fought and don’t want to reveal whatever happened in the last five years. If we had much more time, we could have focused more on organising the party, as we had many more arrows in our quiver and won a few more seats, said Shivakumar seeking his pound of flesh.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) President M Mallikarjun Kharge is an experienced leader and has his roots in Karnataka. Let’s see how it unfolds, said Shivakumar with the decision on the next Chief Minister awaiting Kharge’s call on the most debated topic, especially after the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) moved one line resolution to leave it to the prerogative of the high command to decide on the next Chief Minister.
