Bengaluru: Scores of blood donation camps, free meals and some pledging to donate their eyes. These are not just events marked for today but are a heartfelt tribute to Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, endearingly called ‘Appu’ to mark his birth anniversary, March 17 by his fans. Countless people are thronging Kanteerava Studio to pour their heart out, as many are still coming to terms with the sudden death of Puneeth Rajkumar. Many programmes have been organised to keep Puneeth Rajkumar’s memory alive.
Puneeth Rajkumar would be 48 today, had he been alive. He passed away at the age of 46 after collapsing in a gym in 2021. He may have acted in just 32 movies, but every movie of his had a great connection with his fans and carried a touch of his own.
Though he was the son of matinee idol, Dr Rajkumar, who is ‘Annavru’ to Kannadigas, Puneeth Rajkumar was a Superstar in his own right. Unlike other actors, he was not just an actor, but a singer and a fantastic dancer. However, what connected him with his fans, other than movies, was his simple nature and that unassuming smile that lit up many lives. Many would like to remember him as a great human being. Until his death, none knew he supported hundreds of homes, funded surgeries and was even supporting 1800 students for their education. The responsibility that Tamil actor Vishal has now taken.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai took to his Twitter handle to remember Puneeth Rajkumar on his birth anniversary. “Puneeth Rajkumar is a role model to everyone. Karnataka Ratna ‘Appu’ always lives on in our memory,” said CM Bommai.
Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, KPCC president DK Shivakumar and other political leaders too remembered Puneeth Rajkumar.
In just a short life – 46 is not an age to die – he had touched millions of lives and he will always be remembered as ‘Appu’ for generations to come.
