Mysuru: Liquor bottles, water bottles and disposable plates are among the heaps of trash found in KRS backwaters.
The trash was found during a cleanliness drive taken out by the students of Anandur along with the volunteers. If this is the amount of trash found on the shore of backwaters, imagine the types of waste that could have been disposed inside the water.
It is no more a secret that KRS backwaters is one of the weekend getaway for frolicking youths. Despite several attempts made by the authorities concerned, to rein in errant youths, the impact has been too little.
Cauvery water is one of the major sources of drinking water for Mysuru and parts of Bengaluru. It is also considered as a lifeline for farmers of neighbouring Mandya.
