Mysuru: Ahead of National Lok Adalat in Mysuru district on June 25, Principal District and Sessions Court Judge Dr M L Raghunath said “Matrimonial disputes are rising in the recent days and around 800 cases came before Adalat, but in only 32 cases the couples were reunited”.
Addressing media persons on Friday, Raghunath said “about 2,500 cases are pending in five family courts. It’s difficult to resolve those cases through Lok Adalat alone”.
Citing his earlier experience, Raghunath recalled a case during his previous stint in Ballari court. The judge who called it as “Maggi Case” said “the case was about a man who had filed a divorce against his wife. The reason was she only cooks maggi and was serving it all the three times. Vexed over this, husband applied for divorce and claimed that she doesn’t make any other food and I need separation. Later the case ended with a divorce”, Dr Raghunath pointed.
Considering this, Judge said “education and employment is a must for women because if they face any such hurdles, they should be able to lead an independent life”.
In the Lok Adalat scheduled on June 25, around 22,000 cases are listed including the negotiable instruments Act, Motor Vehicle Act, Cheque bounce cases and also 2,800 criminal cases punishable for less than three years like threat, minor cases.
During the previous Lok Adalat, 54,000 cases were solved and moreover 53 year old case was also resolved.
With such relentless efforts Mysuru stands number one in solving cases in Lok Adalat, said Raghunath.
Senior civil judge and District Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Devaraj Bhoote and Mysuru Bar Association President Mahadevaswamy, Secretary Umesh S were present.
