Workshop on “Innovation and Design Thinking” at GSSSIETW! Creativity is the key to success, say experts

Mysuru: The IQAC Cell of GSSS Institute of Engineering & Technology for Women, Mysuru in association with Department of Computer Science & Engineering organized one day workshop on “Innovation and Design Thinking ” on March 26.
Dr Gururaj K S, Professor, Dept. of CSE welcomed the dignitaries and participants.
He also briefed about the importance of the workshop to the participants.
Dr M Shivakumar, Principal, GSSSIETW in his presidential address briefed about the importance of design thinking and innovation to the engineering graduates and its relevance in the industries for achieving professional excellence. He also insisted that this kind of workshop brings out the creative thinking process among the student community which is the need of the hour for every engineering graduate.
Nagendra R Setty, CEO and Founder, along with Karthik G N, Designer, Ideas Unlimited, Mysuru discussed about the design thinking approach that helps the graduates to be more successful in their career which was attended by around 250+ participants.
He insisted that creativity can be improvised in all the products, services and programs that can be designed for the betterment of the society.
He emphasized that the design process should be human centred which starts with the understanding customer needs to define the complex problem which will be followed by the ideation of innovative solutions.
He explained the importance of user research, personal creation and journey mapping as the tools to empathize the user requirements.
He informed the students to conceptualize the ideas with rapid prototyping tools with proper testing and validating of the prototype to solve real world problems. Students participated in the team activity in order to solve the problems provided to them using the concepts of innovation and design thinking.
He conveyed to the students that engineering design is an art and there can be varying solutions for a single problem based on the approach used by the designers to solve the problem with proper feasibility study while developing the products with better performances.
Faculty coordinators Dr.Gururaj K S, Dr P Raviraj, Dr Manjula G, Dr Archana B and Dr Vinay Venugopal, HoD, Dept. of Physics were present during this workshop.
Dr Gururaj K S, Professor, Dept. of CSE delivered the vote of thanks. All the participants shared their feedback at the end of the workshop.
