Science carnival brings out creative minds at St Thomas

Mysuru: ‘Science Carnival 2019’ at St Thomas School at Vishweshwara Nagar in the city on August 2, brought out creative minds to fore.

About 3000 students irrespective of State and central school soaked in the spirit of carnival by exhibiting various models aptly suiting the theme- innovations for sustainable development.

The models displayed the wide vista of knowledge of budding scientists who with their deft work had created various scientific models like- rainwater harvesting, peril of pollution, street lights with LED bulbs, multi-level car parking lots, volcano, robot and there was no dearth of creativity that enhanced the spirit of the carnival, and also the solutions for many issues plaguing the society.

Pottery the indigenous art of making earthen vessels using clay that was in vogue earlier was also exhibited for the benefit of students, with a professional from Doora village where an exclusive cooperative society of potters is set up, invited to demonstrate the art.

Exhibits to depict rural life.

Another interesting part was the exhibition of age old articles depicting rural life.

A replica of gigantic dinosaur using several hundreds of used plastic bottles was the cynossure of all the eyes. The message of ‘Saving earth from plastics’ was spread loud and clear. Another model was of ‘PSLV’ rocket that was launched by ISRO.

Dr T N Bhavani Shankar of Schevarna Innovation Centre expressed his appreciation and excitement towards the innovative models exhibited by the students. He also insisted the students to develop scientific attitude and sharpen their innovative mind.

Bhavanishankar also promised to award scholarship to the students who are pursuing higher studies and stands first in science in their board exams.

Fr Prakash Abraham the manager of St Thomas Institutions, Sam Cherian secretary of MES and Ebby Eapen, treasurer, MES, special invitees Simi Prakash and Vanitha Chengappa were present.
