New DC, MCC Commissioner have tough job in hand

Mysuru: With Covid-19 second wave yet to subside and third wave in the offing, both the new Deputy Commissioner and MCC Commissioner have a tough job in hand.

Dr Bagadi Gautham Karnataka cadre IAS officer of 2009 batch has been transferred as new Deputy Commissioner ( left in the photo above). He was previously serving as the Additional Commissioner of Commercial taxes (enforcement), Bengaluru.

Dr Lakshmikanth Reddy G the new MCC Commissioner is also a Karnataka cadre IAS officer, of 2015 batch. He was serving as the Managing Director of Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, Bengaluru.

In terms of administration, both the posts assume significance.

Now, with Covid-19 pandemic remaining a common concern with the governments irrespective of state deploying all its wherewithal to contain the surge of cases, the incoming officers should be on the trot.

According to the media bulletin of June 5, Mysuru district reported 1155 fresh cases, 1633 discharges and 22 deaths. The cumulative positives are- 149648, discharges-133348 and deaths-1703.

In Mysuru city alone, comprising 65 wards, fresh cases were 639.

Besides, the new threat in black fungus (Mucormycosis) has already claimed a life.

The outgoing officials have initiated many works towards controlling Covid, with Covid Mitra, Covid Tele Care, door to door survey, Covid Care Centres, triaging to name a few.

As the villages have been more hit in the second wave, adding to the case load, the new concept of ‘ Vaidyara Nade Halliya Kade’ (Doctors walk towards villages) has been launched to take health facilities to the doorsteps of villages. The aim is to make Mysuru Covid Free by July 1, the Doctor’s Day.

With the new officers coming, hope the ongoing fight against Covid-19 will get a new force to further embolden the spirit of foot soldiers.
