7-year-old tribal girl admitted for leopard attack dies in hospital

Mysuru: A seven-year-old girl tribal who had sustained severe injuries after being attacked by a leopard in Hanur taluk, succumbed to her wounds in Mysuru on Friday.

The girl identified as Suseela was playing near her home in Kaggaligundi tribal hamlet in Hanur taluk when the leopard pounced on her. The leopard dragged her for nearly 100 mts from the spot. But her parents and villagers managed to scare away the leopard and saved her from being killed. However, Susheela who had suffered critical neck injury was admitted to Cheluvamba Hospital here for treatment. But, she failed to respond to the treatment and died on Friday.

Susheela’s father Rama ekes out a living as a daily wage labourer.

With nearly 50 houses, Kaggaligubdi tribal hamlet is on the fringes of Male Mahadeshwara Hills that is frequented by leopards and tigers.
