Operation demolition! MCC razes 80-year-old building on M G Road

1 min read

Mysuru: In view of public safety, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) officials pulled down a dilapidated building opposite New Hotel Harihara on M G road in the city.

The building an 80-year-old commercial complex with shops in the ground floor and rooms in the first floor was falling in bits and parts.

It was a landmark structure as the rooms  earlier were sheltering many, who came in search of jobs from rural areas to Mysuru. A food mess was also functioning in the backyard earlier.

Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde who supervised the drive said “we had served notice to the owner to maintain the old structure, but they ignored. Eventually, we decided to raze the structure  due to public concern”.
Barring a shop in the ground floor, most of the shops had been vacated several decades ago due to the rickety status of the building. The complex was near total shutdown.
A JCB was pressed into service to demolish, with adequate police force. The operation started at about 8 am and lasted four hours.
