Mysuru: K Marigowda, Chairman of Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), has resigned following the controversy surrounding the allotment of MUDA sites to Parvathi, wife of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, under 50:50 scheme.
The issue gained attention after Marigowda, a close associate of the Chief Minister, wrote letter as MUDA Chairman to the Commissioner, that led to swift political developments casting aspersions on CM Siddaramaiah.
On the other hand, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot had ordered for the prosecution of CM, prompting the Lokayukta to initiate a probe following a High Court verdict.
In response to the controversy, Parvathi Siddaramaiah returned the 14 sites to MUDA.
Subsequently, Marigowda submitted his resignation to Deepa Cholan, Secretary of the Urban Development Department, in Bengaluru.
Speaking to the media, Marigowda denied being pressured by anyone, including the Chief Minister, stating that his resignation was due to health issues. There is no pressure from anyone, and the CM did not instruct me to resign. I am stepping down because of my health, he clarified.
In September, Marigowda was involved in an altercation at Mysuru Airport when CM Siddaramaiah’s followers allegedly tried to assault him. Following the incident, Marigowda distanced himself from the MUDA scam allegations, stating, I have no connection to the scam. Siddaramaiah is my leader, my guide, he had declared.
On Tuesday, MLC Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah had hinted at Marigowda’s resignation, revealing that the Chief Minister was considering appointing a strict officer as an Administrator to clean up the mess in MUDA. The day after this hint, Marigowda resigned, citing health reasons.
