45 personnel from NDRF and police look for engineering student’s body in Talakadu

Mysuru: A massive search operation has been put in place with 45 personnel from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and police force at River Cauvery in Talakadu to recover the body of an engineering student who is said to have drowned in the river while on a tour on August 15. The deceased is identified as Amith from Honnavar in Uttar Kannada district.

Amith along with three of his friends visited Talakadu on Independence Day and the news of his drowning came to light on Friday, almost 10 days after the incident. It is said that one of his friends sought help from Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to recover his body on social media. Following the pressure, as many as 13 NDRF personnel along with diving experts and also police personnel from Kodagu and Mysuru (about 32) are on search mission. They are using mechanical boats and drone cameras to assist them in the operation.

It is still not clear why the help was sought from the deputy chief minister on social media and why it took so long to alert about the incident.
