Mysuru: Over 30 people irrespective of age group are infected with Hepatitis-c, allegedly due to the negligence at a dialysis centre. The virus is suspected to have spread due to the infusion of contaminated blood.
The fear has gripped further with the death of a person who was undergoing dialysis at the same centre.
This is the sorry state of affairs from the dialysis centre managed by BRS Health Institute at the Government General hospital in K R Nagar town.
Panicked relatives gathered outside the hospital on Wednesday and staged a flash protest.
The fear of infection came to know when Chandru who was undergoing dialysis at the same centre died recently.
Upon his death the staff at the centre contacted every other persons undergoing dialysis regularly and collected their blood samples. They also collected Rs 1200 from each of them towards the test and samples were sent to a laboratory in Hyderabad. The results have been received on June 8, but the contents are not being revealed, alleged the agitators.
The patients are caught in further difficulties as they had turned towards the centre, to avoid travelling up to JSS Hospital in Mysuru. With the recent infection they are forced to spend Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 on the treatment against infection.
