35 tonnes of ‘illegal urea’ seized at a poultry farm in Periyapatna

Mysuru: As the farming activities have picked up, urea racketeers are trying to cash in on the situation. Acting swiftly, officials of taluk administration, agriculture department and police department raided a godown in a poultry farm at Kundanahallin in Periyapatna and seized 35 tonnes of urea fertiliser.
Three persons from Kerala accused of running the racket are handed over to police. They have been remanded to judicial custody.
Following a complaint by farmers, the officials raided the poultry farm and found urea bags stocked in a large quantity. The accused told the officials that they were planning to sell the fertiliser to a exorbitant price.
To attract the gullible farmers, they had purchased urea of reputed brands like- Mangala, Jai Kisan and Iffco and filling them to other bags in the name of an unregistered company. They had printed the bags in Kerala after furnishing the address of a Mysuru company, while placing the order. They had taken the godown on rent to stock the bags.
According to Joint Director of Agriculture department Mahantheshapppa “the seized bags are kept at APMC godown in Periyapatna”.
Tahsildar Shwetha N Ravindra, Deputy Director of Agriculture department Dhananjay, Assistant Director Shivakumar, Circle Police Inspector B R Pradeep, ASIs Zameer Ahmed Khan, Chikkanayaka and Aslam Pasha, agriculture department officials Diwaker and Mahesh, staffer Harish and others were present.
