30k sarees to induce voters! Congress files complaint against BJP

Mysuru: Over a fortnight is left for Hunsur constituency in the district to go for by- elections on December 5, the Congress has fired a first salvo against BJP.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Spokesperson M Lakshmana has lodged a complaint of model code of conduct ( MCC) violations against BJP.

A complaint copy addressed to Chief Election Commissioner, New Delhi, Chief Electoral Officer Karnataka and Depury Commissioner and district electoral officer has been submitted to Assistant Commissioner of Mysuru on November 16.

Lakshmana has alleged ” The sarees in huge quantity were stored in packets along with pamphlets bearing the photographs of former Channapatna MLA C P Yogeeshwar, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, State BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP Prathap Simha, A H Vishwanath and other leaders.

The sarees were hoarded at a place on Mysuru- Hunsur border.

They were meant to be distributed to voters in Hunsur. The MCC is in place since November 11 and sarees were seized on November 15.

A first information report ( FIR) has to bd filed against both Yogeeshwar and Vishwanath as it is a clear violation of Representation of People’s Act 1951.

Both the election observers and paramilitary personnel should be deployed at the entry points of Hunsur.

The State Government is threatening officers on election duty triggering serious concerns about free and fair elections, Lakshmanahas stated in the petition.

City Congress president R Murthy, rural president Dr B J Vijaykumar and other leaders accompanied Lakshmana in filing the complaint.
