30 staff of Legislative Council secretariat transferred with immediate effect

Bengaluru: In a major surgery to administrative machinery at the council secretariat, Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti has transferred 30 staff including those officers and staff of A, B and C groups who had been holding on to their chairs for long in the same posts.

According to a release, it is stated that Horatti took the decision to ensure transparency and efficiency in the office.

According to the notification issued on August 16, with immediate effect, those transferred include deputy secretary, under secretary, branch heads, senior and junior assistants.

This includes 14 from A and B group and 16 from C group.

Horatti who has been a member of the upper house of the State legislature for four decades has been taking several path breaking decisions after assuming the office of the chairman.

This decision of Horatti considered as most courageous and historical in the state legislature has come under praise from several quarters.

It is aimed at addressing the complaints of arbitrary functioning of those in the secretariat, to rein in corrupt practices and other complaints. Those staff who were transferred were holding on to their offices for long due to the blessings of influential persons.

He has also ordered for inquiry into the complaints of misusing power and embezzlement of funds, to safeguard the reputation of the Council which holds a distinct place in the Legislature.
