Chamarajanagar: In a midnight tragedy allegedly caused due to medical negligence, 24 patients admitted at the district Covid hospital died on Monday.
While 16 deaths occurred in the night, eight died in the early morning hours, due to alleged shortage of oxygen.
Many patients who spoke with their relatives in a video call at midnight, had alleged about lack of oxygen. Distraught, some of the attendees of the patients tried to produce air by repeatedly waving towels to the patients, to ensure fresh air.
As per sources, at around midnight, oxygen cylinders went empty at the district hospital, leaving the patients gasping for breath.
Following this, Mysuru- Kodagu MP Pratap Simha contacted Chamarajanagar DC M R Ravi and Mysuru ADC Manjunath Swamy to arrange jumbo oxygen cylinders.
However, the allegations of lack of coordination between Mysuru and Chamarajanagar district adminstration surfaced, putting the former in the dock.
Mysuru district administration clarified that we had sent 250 cylinders- 210 from Southern Gas Agency and 40 from district hospital.
Chamarajanagar DC has called an emergency meeting with district level officers regarding Oxygen shortage and deaths that has kept the authorities in a fix.
