Mysuru: A 23-year-old girl student who suffered grievous injuries in a leopard attack at S Kebbehundi village in T Narasipur taluk in the district died subsequently on Thursday.

This led to a public outrage, as the irate villagers refused to collect the body from the Government Hospital, where the injured girl had been rushed for treatment earlier.

Meghana is that deceased girl who was attacked by the big cat when she was in front of her house in the evening. As she was caught off guard, the animal attacked her, leaving her severely injured in the upper part of her body, with bites on neck region before running away.

Meghana was a final year BCom student at a government college.

MLA Ashwin Kumar rushed to the hospital, only to be greeted by the tense situation, with angry villagers swarming around him, seeking action against the menace.

The MLA sat on a flash protest along with the villagers and promised not to withdraw till the officials concerned visited the spot.

On the other hand, aggrieved villagers held forest personnel responsible for the incident. Despite being aware of the movement of the leopard, the forest personnel failed to keep trail of the animal, the villagers alleged.

What had riled them up more was, the second such incident reported in a short span of one month.

A student who had gone to a hill in the taluk also died of leopard attack a month ago.

Since then forest personnel have launched a hunt for the leopard, that remains elusive yet.
