20 years, automen continue to ride high on Independence Day spirit

Mysuru: Independence Day spirit is fast pervading the city with a few hours left for the tri-colour to flutter high.

The members of Sri Jagadguru Shivathreeshwara Auto Drivers and Owners Association of Sri Jagadguru Shivathreeshwara Auto Stand in front of JSS Hospital old gate on Ramanuja Road in the city have been celebrating Independence Day from 20 years, with a patriotic spirit. Like every year, over 1000 metres length flag is tied to the poles on the either side of the road from Anjaneya Temple, with the boards of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi and revolutionary Bhagat Singh adorning the junctions.

Similarly the fountain at N Madhava Rao Circle (Agrahara Circle) is also decorated by the flag and buntings in tricolour, with the flag hoisted on the top.

A huge flag in the size of 15 ft x30 ft is also erected in the backdrop of the auto stand.

President of Sri Jagadguru Shivathreeshwara Auto Stand, Mahesh said “We have been celebrating Independence Day for the past 20 years, by hoisting the flag in the midnight. The 76th Independence Day celebration is also planned on similar lines, with ex-serviceman Srinivas unfurling the flag.”

MLA T S Srivatsa, former MLA M K Somashekar, Congress leader M Pradeep Kumar, Corporators B V Manjunath and Shobha Sunil, former  Corporator M D Parthasarathy (Pathi), Rashmi Koti of Andolana daily and others will be present as the chief guests, said Mahesh.

Vice-president of Sri Jagadguru Shivarathreeshwara Auto Stand Lokesh, Conveners Mahesh, Raghu, Swaroop, Ravi Sharma, Sham and Naveen were present.
