1983 world cup squad member Roger Binny new BCCI head

Mumbai: Former cricketer Roger Binny was on Tuesday unanimously elected as the President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at its annual general body meeting.

Binny was elected as the 36th president and successor of former cricketer Saurav Ganguly, whose three years term came to an end.

The other office-bearers who were elected unopposed include Jay Shah as secretary for consecutive second term, Ashish Jelar treasurer, Rajeev Shukla Vice- President and Devajit Saikia joint secretary.

Binny who has played 72 ODIs and 27 test matches was the highest wicket taker bowler in 1983 Cricket world cup that was won by India.

Binny an Anglo Indian, has made Bengaluru his home ever since he moved here several decades ago. His son Stuart Binny is also a cricketer who has played for India, albeit for a short period.

As the President of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had taken up several initiatives to take cricket to further heights.
