1973 batchmates of DMS, Mysore meet after 50 years in city

2 min read

Mysuru: The 1973 batchmates of Demonstration Multipurpose School (DMS), Mysore had a fabulous and memorable reunion recently at Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club, Mysore.

Over 34 classmates and some along with their spouses got together with a number of them seeing each other after 50 long years on December 16, 2023.

“We met after a gap of 50 years – totally unexpected and almost unimaginable!” said Tickamchand Jain, an alumnus of DMS, who is now Advisor at STC Marketing.

It all started off when two enthusiastic classmates of 1973 batch bandied about the idea of a special reunion, then proceeded to form a WhatsApp group and gradually grew the group.  It took more than 8 months to get in touch with several of their batchmates.

The four of them formed a Organising Committee. And then… then we met!  We were blown away by how so many of us looked so different and yet talked to each other in the same caring manner of yesteryears! Everyone was incredibly affectionate with each other. A number of them had come from very far way, and some from nearby places too- from Holland, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Middle East, Odisha, Gurgaon, Andhra Pradesh, Bengaluru and Mysuru.

“We sat around and talked about our own uniquely adventurous journeys; we recalled the nicknames we had for each other, reminisced about the pranks we pulled on each other, how we competed with each other and laughed and laughed and laughed!! Then came the fun part, games we played that led to splits of laughter, sharing stories of those golden school days, fondly remembering our teachers with reverence, and affectionately remembering a few of our beloved classmates who had departed prematurely” added Tickamchand Jain.

Educationists, Doctors, Dentists, Administrators, Agriculturists, Industrialists, Executives, Scientists, Engineers, Businessmen, Social Workers, Artists, Homemakers – each super achievers in their own way, shared their stories of the wonderful journey of life. And a few dear friends even surprised us with special gifts for all of us.

It was a wonderful and joyous reunion in Mysuru. All in all, it was an unforgettably memorable day, certainly to be etched in our memories forever!  Finally, we parted ways, determined to reconnect as often as we could in the not-too-distant future, wishing each other “a blessed onward journey and until we meet again” hugs.

He also mentioned that the reunion was a gift beyond anyone’s wildest imagination and hope!
